NO MORE TEARS, I'M LOVIN' IT

NOVEMBER 03 - DECEMBER 23, 2022
130 ORCHARD STREET
OPEN: TUESDAY-SATURDAY, 10AM-6PM

MSCHF (Mischief) is an art collective based in Brooklyn. They are a conceptual group that has produced numerous works that expose the absurdities and frauds of culture and politics that reign over our daily lives from their unique perspective. One of the most talked-about collaborations between MSCHF and Atlanta rapper Lil Nas X was the Air Max 97 "Satan Shoes," which was sold without permission from Nike. The shoes were sold with a drop of human blood on the red sole as a commentary on the absurdity and intolerance of the collaboration culture of street culture brands, and Nike sued, leading to a legal battle that eventually resulted in a settlement. The work Wavy Shoes, which pokes fun at street culture, is also on display at this exhibition. The work is based on the theme that sneakers are now resold like investments, and combines a popular model of sneaker with a wavy sole. Baby, and a lawsuit between MSCHF and Vans is still ongoing in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. In response to the lawsuit, MSCHF has expanded its Wavy Shoes series to include six additional silhouettes of classic shoes from sneaker manufacturers such as Nike, Adidas, and Converse, which are now on display. Other very interesting pieces on display include "BTS In Battle," a video game for the Game Boy Color based on the now internationally popular group BTS, which focuses on military service obligations in South Korea.

Drink Me

P-LSD is a functional analogue of LSD with comparable, though slightly weaker, effects. Crucially, while LSD is a Schedule I controlled substance in the US, 1P-LSD is unregulated and legal as a research chemical. All of the seltzer contained within Drink Me exists legally, but would become illegal at the moment of human consumption.

Each can of 1P-LSD seltzer within the Drink Merefrigerator contains 3 μg of 1P-LSD; Thirty-two cans of seltzer are roughly equivalent to a standard tab of LSD.

MSCHF

Born in 2019 in New York, USA

MSCHF is a conceptual collective developing elaborate interventions that expose and leverage the absurdity of our cultural, political, and monetary systems. MSCHF provokes widespread public response as a means of performance, directly within the environments it critiques. Ultimately, the collective itself represents an intricate subversion of corporate structure, that seeks to challenge every sphere with which it comes into contact.
