On Tuesday, October 20, 3 Dollar Bill in Brooklyn hosts the Halloween edition of Sugar, We're Hoein Down, a line-dancing night set to emo music. It is run by Y'allternative Rodeo, a party series that pairs line dances with emo, alternative and pop-punk songs. The poster bills this one as "Line Dancing x Emo Night: Halloween Edition."
The night runs from 7 to 11pm. According to the organizers' Instagram, no experience is needed. They will teach beginner lessons as usual, followed by open dancing for all levels through the night. The music is emo, pop-punk, alt and spooky song swaps only, meaning familiar line-dance tunes are replaced with songs from those genres. The venue's event page makes the same point for anyone who hates country music: this is not that kind of hoedown.
The Halloween version adds a costume contest, and the hosts invite guests to get niche with their outfits. Vendors will also be set up. DJ Niche Night (@nichenightnyc) returns on the decks, as at earlier editions.
Entry is 21+, and a physical ID is required. Tickets are sold through Eventim, with the link in the organizers' posts.
3 Dollar Bill describes itself as Brooklyn's premier queer nightclub, live music and performance venue, and it opened as the largest queer venue in the borough. It sits at 260 Meserole Street, in the Williamsburg and Bushwick area. The rest of its week is also Halloween-leaning, with a 3 Year Anniversary show from Club NYC on Thursday and a Halloween Master Class with Mike Zumba on Sunday.
