Nike and the Virgil Abloh Foundation are presenting "Virgil Abloh: The Codes" at The Shed in Hudson Yards, from December 10, 2026 through January 18, 2027. Nike announced the New York showing on October 19. It gathers nearly 1,000 objects across fashion, footwear, art, architecture, graphic design, music and cultural production, with finished works shown beside prototypes, sketches and archival materials.
The "Codes" of the title are the methodological principles Abloh set out, meant to apply to any medium, product or space. Nike says they are what made his work, particularly The Ten, his collaboration with the brand, both easy to identify and easy to translate from one form to another.
The show is curated by Chloe Sultan, who is also Director of the Virgil Abloh Archive, and Mahfuz Sultan. Earlier editions of The Codes were held in Miami and Paris, and the New York version extends that history. The galleries will recreate Abloh's Paris office at Pont Neuf, and a dedicated media lab will give open access to a selection of his raw design files. Visitors are invited to treat the tools and visual systems on view as starting points for their own creative work.
Beyond the galleries, a retail experience co-curated by Justin Saunders, founder of JJJJound, will offer merchandise developed in dialogue with the exhibition. Details of that collection are due in the coming weeks. A month-long schedule of conversations, performances, workshops and related events will accompany the show, with programming to be announced later.
The exhibition marks the fifth anniversary of Abloh's death. Shannon Abloh, founder of the Virgil Abloh Archive and the Virgil Abloh Foundation, describes it as a way to share his process and ideas with new generations. Tickets go on sale to the general public on October 23 through TheShed.org, which also lists presale information. Press reports put the starting price at $25.
