Classic Harbor Line, based at Pier 62 in Chelsea Piers (West 22nd Street at the Hudson River), is running its fall foliage cruises from October 3 through November 15. Most New Yorkers see the season from a sidewalk or a park path. These trips offer the view from the water instead.

The boats are part of the appeal. The company designs, builds and operates its own fleet, which is styled after the yachts of the 1920s: teak decks, varnished mahogany rails and polished brass fixtures. Both power yachts and sailing vessels are in the line-up.

The route runs north up the Hudson toward the George Washington Bridge and the Palisades, where the cliffs carry the autumn color. Options include brunch cruises on the yachts and schooner sails for those who would rather travel under canvas. A complimentary beverage is included aboard. The company's Instagram has also promoted a late-morning "Grand Palisades" foliage departure.

A discount is available. Enter the online promo code FALL15 when booking to take 15% off any ticketed trip through November 30, excluding Saturdays. The code field appears once you select your number of tickets.

The company operates daily, year-round. Tickets can be booked online or by phone at 212-627-1825. Other themed sailings are on the calendar as well: during Archtober, the month-long architecture and design festival, Classic Harbor Line is running architecture tours in collaboration with the Center for Architecture, and its holiday cruises begin in mid-November.

For Japanese visitors, the Hudson sail is a short ride from Midtown and shows a different side of Manhattan from the usual skyline views: the bridge, the Palisades and the changing leaves, seen from a classic wooden-trimmed deck.
