Where to get a Halloween costume in NYC in 2026: Abracadabra NYC, Spirit Halloween pop-ups in Brooklyn and Queens, vintage at Screaming Mimi's and Beacon's Closet, and anime goods at Kinokuniya, plus which old favorites have closed and how to join the Village Halloween Parade.

Halloween falls on Saturday, October 31 this year, and at 7 p.m. the Village Halloween Parade heads up Sixth Avenue, open to anyone in costume. Where to get that costume is the perennial New York question, and several longtime favorites have closed in the past few years. These are the shops we could confirm are open in 2026, checked against their official websites and Instagram accounts on October 17.
Abracadabra NYC (Flatiron)
At 19 West 21st Street, Abracadabra is a dedicated Halloween store: costumes for adults, kids and pets, plus masks, wigs, special-effects makeup and props, with costume and prop rentals and makeup application. The shop says holiday hours are in effect, so check the website or call 212-627-5194. Online orders can be picked up only after you receive a ready confirmation by email or text, and must be collected within 72 hours.

Spirit Halloween (pop-ups in Brooklyn and Queens)
The national seasonal chain's official store locator lists three Brooklyn pop-ups: Downtown Brooklyn (490a Fulton Street), the Gateway area (2265 Ralph Avenue) and Bay Ridge (515–521 86th Street). Queens has four: 89-89 Union Turnpike, 9606 Queens Boulevard, 85-10 Northern Boulevard and 34-14 Steinway Street. As of October 17 the locator shows no Manhattan store. The Downtown Brooklyn shop is open Sunday 9 a.m.–9 p.m., Monday–Tuesday 9–10, Wednesday–Thursday 9–11, Friday 8–11 and Saturday 9–10. Spirit's Instagram is offering 20 percent off one item through October 19.

Screaming Mimi's (Chelsea)
On the parlor floor of 240 West 14th Street, Screaming Mimi's is a vintage shop that has dressed film, TV and theater productions, and its window is currently a pirate-themed Halloween scene. Go here to build a costume from real vintage. Open Monday–Saturday noon–8, Sunday 1–7.
Beacon's Closet (three in Brooklyn, one in the Village)
The big vintage and resale store is ideal for sourcing a DIY costume. Greenpoint (74 Guernsey Street, daily 11–8), Park Slope (92 Fifth Avenue, weekdays noon–8, weekends 11–8), Bushwick (23 Bogart Street, daily 11–8) and Greenwich Village (10 West 13th Street, daily 11–8).

Kinokuniya New York (Midtown)
Not a costume shop, but the place for anime and manga merchandise and T-shirts if you need character accessories. 1073 Avenue of the Americas, across from Bryant Park. Open Monday–Saturday 10–8, Sunday 11–7:30.

Closed or unconfirmed
We couldn't confirm that Halloween Adventure, formerly on Fourth Avenue in the East Village, is still operating; its website domain is listed for sale. Party City announced in December 2024 that it would close all its stores and shut them by early 2025 (the brand survives as Party City at Staples shops, including in Brooklyn). We found no official information on Ricky's NYC Halloween stores this year. Check each shop's official site for current hours before you go.
If you're marching in the parade
The Village Halloween Parade starts at 7 p.m. on Saturday, October 31, and runs up Sixth Avenue from Canal Street to 15th Street. This is the 53rd parade, and the theme is "Body & Soul." Only people in costume can march; line up at Canal Street and Sixth Avenue between 6:30 and 9 p.m., entering from the east or south via Sullivan, East Broome or Canal Streets. It's a zero-tolerance event for alcohol.
