NYC Pokémon Fans, Take Note: Fender x Pokémon Center Red and Green Guitars Open Lottery Nov. 19

Fender and Pokémon Center have teamed up for Pokémon's 30th anniversary on two guitars themed after the original Pokémon Red and Green games. The instruments are Fender's two icons, the Stratocaster and the Telecaster. They will be sold by lottery through Pokémon Center Online.

The Made in Japan Pokémon "Red Version" Stratocaster and the Made in Japan Pokémon "Green Version" Telecaster are each priced at ¥396,000, tax included. The bodies carry bold pixel-art graphics that recall the look of the original game screens. The pickguard is built to shimmer in fluorescent color depending on the viewing angle.

The neck plate is engraved with a "30th Anniversary Dot Logo" created for the collaboration. Each guitar also comes with an original pick set, a newly illustrated certificate and a dedicated hard case.

The sound has a twist too. Press the volume knob and an 8-bit sound is added to the guitar tone. The result is meant to recall the audio of the original Red and Green games.

Lottery entries run from 12:00 p.m. JST on Thursday, November 19, to 4:59 p.m. JST on Tuesday, November 24, through the lottery page on Pokémon Center Online. Entrants need a Pokémon Center Online account, a login and phone-number verification. Registering alone does not complete an entry. Each person may enter once. Results and further details will be announced later on Pokémon Center Online.

For New Yorkers who grew up on the original games and play guitar, this is a notable release. The sale is a lottery on Pokémon Center Online only, and the pitch echoes the original game's question of which version to pick.
