Westbeth Artists Housing, the West Village complex built for artists, is running its flea market for the 42nd year. The market's tagline is "Bargains Galore," and the poster bills Westbeth as the world's largest artist community. The sale takes place in the building's basement.

The poster lists affordable art, clothing, jewelry, books, furniture, toys, housewares, fabric, tools and albums. Preview photos on the official page show framed paintings leaning against the walls of a storage-style room, shelves of jars and craft supplies, and racks of women's clothing. The market also has rooms or sections for linens and fine fabrics, kids' items, office supplies and notions, and a media center. New this year are shelves of Christmas items.

Payment is by cash or check only. The market is in the Westbeth basement at 55 Bethune Street, at the corner of Washington Street, New York, NY 10014. Questions can go to westbethfleamarket@gmail.com.

Westbeth is better known as a home for artists, with its own gallery, performance programs and a long list of resident painters, writers and performers. The flea market is one of its best-known annual events. It's a neighborhood-scale sale, and visitors from Japan who like secondhand shopping and art can browse it as a local alternative to the bigger weekend markets.
