The weekend before the NYC Marathon, Greenpoint gets a very long table for runners. The Longest Pastry Table takes place Saturday, Oct. 24, from noon to 2 p.m. on Driggs Avenue between N 12th Street and Lorimer Street, beside McCarren Park.
It is hosted by Pastry Runners NYC, North Brooklyn Parks Alliance and the North Brooklyn Open Streets Community Coalition. Run clubs and runners from all five boroughs are invited to sit at one communal table and start taper week together. The format follows the Longest Table model, which began in 2022 and has since spread to communities across the country.
Admission is free, but space on the street is limited, so an RSVP is needed to hold a seat. The form lets you name your run club, or choose "No club" if you don't belong to one. Friends should RSVP separately.
The meal is a potluck of carbs: bring bread, bagels, pastries or cookies, from your own kitchen or a favorite bakery. Anything containing common allergens should be labeled. Local bakeries are adding to the spread, and tables will carry allergen information for donated food, though potluck dishes come from many kitchens.
Seating is first come, first served. Greeters will point arrivals to open spots, so clubs can sit together and solo runners can meet someone new. The event runs rain or shine, with a judgment call made on the day. Volunteers are wanted for check-in, greeting, setup, cleanup and photo or video, and bakeries or businesses that want to take part can email hello@pastryrunners.com.
