Naked Tomato Brings Eyal Shani's "Naked Food" to Williamsburg Wharf, NYC

Naked Tomato, from Israeli chef Eyal Shani, sits at Williamsburg Wharf on Kent Avenue in Brooklyn. Billed as a love letter to the tomato, it serves stripped-down, seasonal "naked food," with tahini-drizzled skewers on the menu. A Miami Beach branch is the only other location.

Naked Tomato is the Williamsburg Wharf restaurant from Israeli chef Eyal Shani. Its website calls it a love letter to the tomato and to everything fresh and honest. The idea is that the best ingredients do the talking and the atmosphere handles the rest.

The concept is what Shani calls "naked food." In a statement on the site, he describes it as an act of courage: removing masks and distractions, standing fully behind the ingredient, choosing the very best, understanding its character, and guiding it gently to its purest expression. He calls this high-risk creation. The site's tagline reads "Fresh. Raw. Real. Fun." The food is described as juicy, colorful, seasonal and bold, served at a table meant to feel like home.

The official photos give a sense of the table. One shows a skewer being drizzled with tahini, captioned as a Shippudim skewer. Another shows a platter of sliced, bone-in meat, with whole tomatoes, green peppers and small dishes of dips and pickled onions around it. A third shows white wine being poured. Full dishes and prices are listed on the menu page of the website.

The Brooklyn restaurant is one of two Naked Tomato locations. The other is inside the Moxy South Beach hotel at 921 Washington Ave in Miami Beach. The website's location section also carries the logos of other Shani restaurants: HaSalon, Shmoné, Miznon, Malka and Bella. Miznon is the name Japanese readers are most likely to know.

The Brooklyn address is 470 Kent Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11249, at Williamsburg Wharf. Tables are booked through Resy via the "Book a Table in Brooklyn" button. The site also has a private events page, an Instagram account at @nakedtomatousa, and a newsletter sign-up.
