Spanish designer and sculptor Nacho Carbonell, born in Valencia and now based in Eindhoven in the Netherlands, opens Fragment at Carpenters New York, 693 Fifth Avenue, on November 13. The show runs through December 19, 2026.

Carbonell treats objects as living organisms capable of emotion and surprise, and his pieces read as both organic and otherworldly. He makes everything by hand, using materials sourced close to his studio so that each work carries its own personality. Fragment pairs recent experiments, shown here for the first time, with returns to forms from earlier in his career. Fragmentation is the organizing idea, both a way of working and an aesthetic, and it lets him join natural textures and sculptural shapes into bold, imaginative design.

The centerpiece is a revisit of Big Round Chandelier Los Angeles, first made in 2021. Pigmented plaster over honeycomb metal mesh forms cocoon-like masses that hang from metal branches like oversized fruit. Working in the New York gallery itself, Carbonell added layers of paint in his spontaneous, physical manner. Related pieces include Pollock Table Lamp (1169/2025), where dense formations sprout like leaves from a trunk set in a concrete base, and Soft Round Orange Table Lamp (1160/2025), whose folded, bulbous protrusions suggest coral, stone or petals. Mesh Table Lamp (314/2025) uses a metal mesh skeleton filled with stone pieces from his earlier works.

Glass is the other thread. Glass Table Lamp Bubble (1107/2025) assembles irregular shards of colored glass in a mosaic manner. Disco Ball Table Lamp (1135/2025) adds tin and copper, echoing Art Deco and Art Nouveau stained glass. Dual Stone Arch Glass Bubble Table Lamp (1164/2025) uses similar materials in a form like the slouching body of a mythical creature. These works invite viewing from different angles as light and color interact.

The gallery is open Monday to Friday, 10am to 6pm, and Saturday, 11am to 5pm. It is closed Sunday.
