Apollo Bagels," the new sensation sweeping the streets of New York, is taking the bagel scene by storm. Both the East Village and West Village locations see long lines forming every morning, and its popularity continues to grow among locals and tourists alike. The craze has now reached Brooklyn, and in January 2025, a new store finally opened its doors in Williamsburg.
There is a cake store run by a Japanese patissier in DUMBO, a popular tourist spot in Brooklyn. Located on the first floor of an old building at the foot of the Brooklyn Bridge, Burrow is a well-known store among those in the know, and the name "Burrow" means a small cave where foxes and rabbits live. With no signage, one might be tempted to walk past the shop due to its lack of presence, but once inside the building, one can see that the shop is constantly visited by customers, indicating that it is well-liked by the locals. The white interior has a solid impression of cleanliness with no unnecessary decoration, and the showcase next to the cash register is always stocked with freshly made cakes, cookies, and scones. The cookies are available in many varieties and are priced at a pleasant $5 for two. The Mont Blanc is a little expensive at $8, but the meringue base is crispy and the melt-in-your-mouth cream is surprisingly well-balanced and satisfying. The pastries are freshly made every morning, and strawberry shortcake can be purchased in whole portions if you make a reservation in advance. Hours of operation are limited to Tuesday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., so be sure to check back when you visit!
This upscale patisserie is located on the border of Manhattan's Soho and West Village neighborhoods. Upon opening the striking blue door, you will be greeted by a beautiful jewel-like display of sweets, including Danish bread with its wavy form and cakes filled in glass jars with beautiful layers. The store has an eat-in area with several seats where customers can enjoy champagne, wine, and teas that can only be found in France. The interior design is all imported from France, so you can enjoy an authentic French atmosphere while in New York. It is open until midnight, so it is recommended to visit for dessert after a night of drinking.
An authentic French bakery in Williamsburg. The store is marked by the bicycle logo and is so popular that customers line up early in the morning. Stores are located in the popular areas of Williamsburg, Fort Greene, and Carroll Gardens, and are open Tuesday through Sunday from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm. There are many places to window shop around the store, and a short walk will take you to McCarren Park and Domino's Park. We recommend that you buy bread early in the morning, have breakfast while picnicking in the park, and then take your time to go sightseeing and shopping in the Williamsburg area!
Since its establishment in 1995, this famous cookie store has been loved by New Yorkers for more than 20 years. Since opening its first store on Manhattan's Upper West Side, it now has six stores in New York City, with additional stores in LA, Chicago, and other cities, and is said to be the best cookie in the world. There are seven varieties of cookies in total for $5 each (gluten-free cookies are $6). The Manhattan store is always crowded on the weekends, so the best time to visit is in the morning on weekdays, but the Williamsburg store is spacious and relatively relaxing on weekends. Recommended for a quick energy boost between strolls in Brooklyn!
This Paulish bakery is located not far from the Bedford Ave station. Hard breads such as loaf bread, brioche, and campagne are beautifully displayed against the wall, and cream puffs and doughnuts are lined up in the showcase, all looking delicious. In addition, prepared dishes from Paulish are sold, and the store is crowded with people who seem to be Europeans at lunch time. The prices are reasonable, so if you are in the neighborhood, you should definitely enjoy authentic Polish cuisine.
Fany Gerson, the founder of Dough, the donut store that became a cult favorite in Brooklyn and took New York City by storm, has opened a new donut store between Clinton Hill and Bed-Stuy in 2020. The dough for the donuts is made with yeast and is fluffy, soft, and more like bread than a juicy donut.
This long-established doughnut store has been in Greenpoint, Brooklyn for over 60 years.
Opening at 4:30 in the morning on weekdays and at 5:00 on weekends, this extremely popular store is constantly crowded with people from early in the morning. The green and pink uniforms worn by the female staff are very cute. In the movie "Spider-Man: No Way Home," the store also appears as the donut store where Zendaya works, wearing the exact same uniform. The donuts are extremely inexpensive at $1.25 each. Since it is a popular store, some donuts are sold out in the evening, so if you want to try many kinds, it is recommended to go early in the day. No credit cards are accepted, cash only, so don't forget to bring cash!
A Brooklyn-based store specializing in traditional and classic cupcakes. At only $3 to $5 each, they make the perfect souvenir. In addition to cupcakes, the shop also offers sliced cakes, puddings, and other sweets, as well as croissants, pretzels, and other pastries. The pink boxes for takeout are really cute.
Dun-Well Doughnuts is an all vegan donut shop. Located right off the Montrose L in East Williamsburg, the shop is filled with vintage decor and the strong aroma of freshly baked donuts and roasted coffee beans. Dun-Well rotates 200 varieties of donuts, which are super thick and pair well with their slightly bitter, nutty flavored espresso. There aren't a ton of other attractions nearby, but the shop, which has also been featured on the Food Network channel, still draws a good amount of visitors from outside of the neighborhood.
Cake shop opened in 2015 in the BOERUM HILL area. The store is always crowded with customers and is a popular store loved by local residents. There is also a branch in Times Square in Manhattan, which is very popular among tourists as the best cheesecake in New York. We hope you will enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of the Brooklyn main store, which is completely different from the Manhattan store.

A specialty pie store that opened in Brooklyn in 2010. The Salt Caramel Pie and the Salty Honey Pie, both made with apples, are their signature pies, but the Matcha Pie and the Hojicha Pie, made in collaboration with Ippodo, are also very popular. They are perfect for home parties.
Rather than a commercial cafe, MAISON du TSURU has an atmosphere reminiscent of a home-like kitchen. Tucked away on a quiet street in East Williamsburg, it's a spot that even those in the neighborhood might not know of, but the bright-colored exterior is very inviting and the staff is exceedingly warm and friendly. They serve La Colombe beans and have a small selection of sweets and pastries, like macarons.
Baked in Brooklyn is located on the west side of Greenwood Cemetery, a historic cemetery in New York where the famous artist Basquiat is buried. There is a huge bakery at the back of the store, and you can actually see the bakery in action. They have a wide variety of breads and sandwiches, which are freshly baked and sandwiched to order. A short walk from Baked in Brooklyn takes you to the area called Sunset Park, where land prices have been rising recently, and then to the Industry City complex. In the corner of Industry City, there is an area called Japan Village, where you can find Japanese food products at Sunrise Mart and a food hall with Japanese restaurants. There are many people who travel from Manhattan to visit Japan Village. It is about a 30-minute subway ride from Manhattan, so a good course is to have breakfast at Baked in Brooklyn, do a little sightseeing at Greenwood Cemetery, go shopping at Industry City, and then return home.
